Depending on the diameter range and machine tool setup used in Ho Chi Minh City's manufacturing plants, engineers choose between two primary deep hole drilling methods: Gun Drilling and the BTA (Boring and Trepanning Association) System.
Gun drilling uses single-flute cutting tools with integrated coolant channels. High-pressure liquid (oil or water-soluble emulsion) is pumped through the center of the tool shaft to the cutting zone. The coolant flushes the chips back along a V-shaped exterior flute. This method is highly effective for deep molds, fuel injectors, and surgical implants requiring micro-diameters.
The BTA system feeds coolant externally between the drill tube outer diameter and the bored hole surface. The cutting fluid pressure drives chips inward through the hollow inner bore of the drill tube, discharging them through the machine spindle.
